This is the register of certification orders issued by the Tribunal. Each certification order covers a sector defined by the Tribunal as suitable for collective bargaining and identifies the artists' association certified to be the exclusive bargaining agent for the sector.
In the Act, the term "certification" is used to mean the recognition granted to an artists' association by the Tribunal. Obtaining such certification gives an artists' association the exclusive right to represent self-employed artists in a specific sector with respect to collective bargaining and their relations with producers within federal jurisdiction.
Certification is valid for a period of three years after the date that the Tribunal issues the certificate and is automatically renewed if no application for revocation, or competing application for certification in respect of the same sector, has been received.
Broadly speaking, a "sector" is composed of independent artists that the applicant is seeking to represent in bargaining with the producers in federal jurisdiction who engage their services.
An application for certification must be made within the time periods set out in section 25 of the Act. These time periods are different depending on:
