The 59th Annual conference of the Association of Labor Relations Agencies (ALRA) was held in Ottawa July 24-28, 2010

ALRA is an association of impartial government agencies in the United States and Canada responsible for administering labour-management relations laws or services. The association promotes cooperation among these agencies, high professional standards, public interest in labour relations, improved employer-employee relationships, peaceful resolution of employment and labour disputes, and the exchange of information regarding the administration and improvement of agency services.

The Canadian Artists and Producers Professional Relations Tribunal was one of the host agencies for this year’s conference, in collaboration with the Canada Industrial Relations Board, the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, the Public Service Labour Relations Board, and the Public Service Staffing Tribunal. The Acting Chairperson of the Tribunal, Ms. Elaine Kierans, welcomed the delegates. The following are her speaking notes for the presentation.

Saskatchewan Legislature's Human Services Committee - February 2007

On February 26, Acting Chairperson and member John Moreau appeared before the Saskatchewan Legislature's Human Services Committee to discuss Saskatchewan's proposed status of the artist legislation. Mr. Moreau, accompanied by Acting Executive Director and General Counsel Diane Chartrand, made an oral presentation to the Committee and took questions from them, and submitted a written brief.

Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities (HUMA) — May 2005

David P. Silcox, CAPPRT Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer, and Josée Dubois, CAPPRT Executive Director and General Counsel, appeared before the HUMA Committee, on May 10, 2005, in regards to the budget for 2005-06.

Canadian Conference of the Arts national conference on the status of the artist — November 2004

The Conference, held on November 18-20, 2004 in Regina, brought together members of the arts and culture community to discuss how to move forward on the issue of the status of the artist. The Conference helped to raise awareness of status of the artist initiatives in effect or in development across the country and to foster discussion on future priorities.

CAPPRT offered a dramatized educational presentation about the federal Status of the Artist Act and CAPPRT. The actors were John Van Burek (CAPPRT member) and Josée Dubois (CAPPRT Executive Director and General Counsel). Notes for the presentation were distributed to conference participants.
