Scale Agreement

What is a scale agreement?

"Scale agreement" is defined in section 5 of the Act and refers to a written agreement between a producer and an artists' association which sets out the minimum terms and conditions for the provision of artists' services and other related matters.

Scale agreements filed with the Minister of Labour

Under subsection 33(2) of the Act, parties to a scale agreement are required to file a copy with the Minister of Labour without delay.

The Workplace Information Directorate of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) is responsible for collecting scale agreements filed with the Minister of Labour and can provide, free of charge, updated information on:

  • scale agreements,
  • negotiated wage data, benefits and working conditions,
  • labour organizations,
  • union membership,
  • innovative workplace practices and more.
