What is a producer?

Paragraph 6(2)a) of the Status of the Artist Act defines a "producer" as

1. government institutions listed in Schedule I to the Access to Information Act or the schedule to the Privacy Act, or prescribed by regulation, and
2. broadcasting undertakings, including a distribution or programming undertaking, under the jurisdiction of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission.

Under the Act, producers may form an association of producers for the purpose of bargaining with certified artists' associations.

What is an association of producers?

The Act defines producers as federal government institutions and broadcasting undertakings. These producers are entitled to form associations for the purpose of bargaining and entering into scale agreements with artists' associations. The formation of an association of producers is entirely voluntary.
